2004 contest rules are here!
Letter from the Press Club president:
The year 2004 was a political groundbreaker for
Arizona. Early on, thanks to the Democratic primary, we actually had our say in
the presidential nomination process. We hosted both presidential candidates for
campaign visits — one even made a stop in Flagstaff. We were the site of the
third and final debate. We emerged as a battleground state, for awhile, until
the state showed its true color — red.
Politics aside, we thankfully had a relatively
quiet fire season, but regrettably had to report about other unpleasantness,
such as the prison hostage standoff, church scandals, continued immigrant deaths
along the border and the abysmal Diamondbacks season.
Through it all, Arizona journalists
distinguished themselves once again in 2004, and the Arizona Press Club is
excited to recognize our state's finest journalists from the smallest community
papers to our largest metropolitan newspapers.
We've made a few changes in this year's contest
and marked them bold in the rules. We've added a few new categories, such as
team reporting, more writing categories for small and medium papers and added a
projects category for words, design and photos combined.
Please, read through contest rules carefully
and follow the entry protocol as detailed. All entries must be postmarked by
Jan. 31, 2005.
Let a Press Club member know if there are
categories you'd like to see added to next year's contest. We're always open to
input, and we welcome your participation.
Thanks and good luck,
Laura Clymer
