Judge: Carmen Dybdahl and Sandy Nelson, (Tacoma, Wash.) News Tribune
Dybdahl designs Page One and features pages for The News Tribune, a 135,000 -circulation daily in Tacoma, Washington. She previously worked at The Anchorage Times in Alaska as a copy editor, features editor and designer, and assistant managing editor, among other jobs. Nelson is a copy editor who worked 10 years as a reporter before being moved to the copy desk in 1990 because she refused to curtail her off-duty political activities. A lawsuit followed, going all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1997. The justices refused to hear her appeal and Nelson remains on the desk as the daytime (features) slot person.

"Wordstock nation," "Lemon harangue" and "I am not a cook!" Cody:"'Fleur de Lee' works wonderfully. ŚSweet Foam Arizona' flows right along with the cadence of the song. Very clever. ŚMake No Ms. Steak' is hurt by the typography, and needs the deck head to make it work but it does work. A trio of very good headlines." Webb: "'I Am Not a Cook' is fabulous. Made us laugh out loud. ŚLemon Harangue' is also absolutely perfect. These two headlines were probably the best out of all the entries. ŚWordstock Nation' works well with the story."

"We all want bumper stickers that say ŚHonk If You Love Cheeses'. Very good. ŚWon Ton Abandon' was fun. ŚForest Grump' was another headline that made us laugh.
