PERSONALITY PROFILE
Judged by Alice Klement, Associated Press Enterprise Editor in New York
"I adore profiles, and I hope the reading public does too. These winners all present admirable strengths, whether adding a human if unfamiliar face to government machinations or adding a very human dimension to a very familiar face. These winners hold to the notion of structuring a story around a theme - and that's an essential element for successful storytelling. As a hurried reader, I would advocate a bit more control of length. We tend to equate length with greatness, and that's not always so. In some cases, history and the complexity of the issues justify this. In others, not so. These writers will only get better when they get shorter. Meanwhile, these stories offer insight as well as facts."
