So Pulitzer Monday came and went with nary a call. You
spent Thursday frantically filing your taxes on deadline, which meant on
Friday, you had to play catch-up — eight blog entries, 24 tweets, final
touches on your big Sunday story.... and don't forget to download those
pictures of the new fire truck at station No. 4.
Who has time put together a nomination for the
Arizona Press Club's Brick Wall and Sledgehammer awards? You do now.
We're extending our deadline for nominations to April 28. That gives you a full two weeks to shoot us an e-mail with your story of government stonewalling or stalling. Feel free to include any supporting documents or links to related articles. Sure, we've awarded the Brick Wall to some big names in the past — but that is hardly the only qualifier. Over the last year, who on your beat has made it difficult, if not impossible, to get access to public records?
If you're not sure whether a person or agency qualifies, give me a call and we can talk about it.
Also, we know that, despite the demands of the job, there are journalists out there who refuse to take no for an answer. If you know of a persistent reporter who has doggedly pursued public records during the last year — consider nominating them for the Sledgehammer Award.
