Posted May 13, 2008: North Central News Inc., publisher of three community monthly newspapers, seeks a part-time to full-time editorial associate for its Scottsdale and Tempe publications. Job duties include developing and writing original stories for each publication as well as assisting with compiling and formatting submitted news. Newspaper or other community publication experience preferred. The job will entail periodic attendance at city council meetings for both communities, so East Valley residency is a plus. While some flexibility will be allowed for working from home, some weekly in-office attendance will be required (office is located in Central Phoenix).
Expected hire date is mid-June, with transition to full-time work expected by Aug. 1. Health insurance is provided for employees working 30 hours or more, with approximately 80 percent of premium paid by North Central News Inc. Posted May 30, 2008 House of Elliott Media Group has an opening for a part-time editorial assistant to typeset news briefs and events listings for our weekly and monthly publications. The position also includes some editing and periodic story assignments.
Duties include: --Typesetting news and events briefs for publication in weekly newspaper and events calendar for monthly magazine, ensuring both adhere to established standards and style.
--Use press/media releases, announcements, e-mail notices, etc. to write/create briefs (with brief headlines) for publication, making sure they adhere to AP style and established company standards.
--Help edit page layouts for spelling, grammar, style and clarity.
--Research and write one to two stories for publication in monthly magazine.
Applicants must speak fluent AP style and be familiar with traditional journalistic standards of fairness, sound reporting and clear writing.
