  •  Brick Wall Award Nobody wants one, yet several public agencies and officials have earned this uncoveted award for brazenly ignoring the state's public records law. In 2008, press club announced a new honor meet the winner of the first-ever "Sledgehammer Award."

  • Arizona Press Club awarded grants for Arizona journalists to attend the 2008 Society of Professional Journalists Spring (SPJ) Conference for Region 11 in Tucson, April 11-12, 2008. The $75 professional grants went to: Hillary Davis, Arizona Daily Sun; Laura Swendseid, The Buckeye Sun; and Candace Hughes, Pinal Ways.  A $75 student grants was awarded to Jennifer Tramm, University of Arizona.

  •  The sixth edition of the Arizona Reporter's Handbook on Media Law is now available. Perkins Coie Brown & Bain attorney Dan Barr led a team of 10 attorneys in Phoenix and Seattle in revising the Handbook, which was last released in 2002. Topics covered include access to court proceedings, public records, open meetings, and public and private places. The new Handbook also addresses subpoenas issued against the news media, search warrants, gag orders, prior restraints, libel, invasion of privacy, promises of confidentiality to sources, copyright and trademark issues, and Section 230 immunity for online content.   • Press Club's Distinguished Service award honors a lifetime of service and excellence by an Arizona journalist or instructor. Deadline for 2006 nominations have passed Award was presented at the May awards banquet.
